Our Trust is rated as GOOD by the CQC

Date:

On 13 April 2017, The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has given our Trust an overall rating of ‘Good’. It follows a recent inspection between November 2016 and January 2017.

In their most recent report, inspectors found that staff across the organisation were kind, caring, compassionate, respectful and warm with patients.

In June 2016 the CQC gave us an overall rating of ‘requires improvement’. The CQC has re-rated us less than a year since publishing their initial inspection findings and found significant improvements.

Rob Webster, our chief executive, said: “Thank you to our staff, who work hard every day to help people reach their potential and live well in the community. The CQC revisited the Trust in the middle of winter, during a time of additional pressure. They saw for themselves this commitment and the improvements staff have made in less than a year. It is also heartening to see that CQC found our staff to be caring and compassionate without exception.

“I welcome this independent view of our services and the fact that 90% of the ratings within our service lines were found to be ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’.”

Improvements recognised by the CQC included:

  • A positive change in our culture
  • Care plans are personalised and holistic with good evidence of patient involvement and participation
  • Staff know the Trust’s values and direction of travel
  • All teams in community mental health services for older people had access to crisis services 24 hours a day, seven days a week

The Trust has met 15 out of 17 requirement notices and is still completing actions around waiting times, including psychological therapies and specialist community mental health services for young people.

Rob continued: “As a learning organisation, we’re committed to improvement and welcome the insights from the CQC.

“I’m proud of the improvements that we’ve made and look forward to building on these as we tackle areas that require further work and aim to become outstanding.”
