Students from schools in Barnsley were given an insight into the world of healthcare work when they visited our Fieldhead site last week as part of the ‘Better Learners, Better Workers’ programme.
Our Trust and Barnsley GP Federation are running sessions to give the pupils practical examples of what ‘healthcare’ is – particularly to dismiss the myth that it’s more than doctors and nurses in hospitals and GP surgeries. Last year 60 pupils selected had taster sessions in healthcare, construction and engineering, and of these approximately 20 ambassadors have now chosen to focus on healthcare for their 2nd year.
The young people took part in a tour of our Mental Health Museum, spoke to our improving access to psychological therapies (IAPT) and Yorkshire Smokefree services, and took part in a first aid and resuscitation session.
