Joint media statement from us and Barnsley Council re Keresforth

Date:

“We’ve been working together with Barnsley Council over the last ten years to look at different options for delivering the services that are currently based at the Keresforth site. Significant investment in other health care premises in Barnsley has meant that the Keresforth site has been largely empty over recent years, with the exception of the building occupied by the learning disability service.

“The Keresforth site is planned to become part of the ‘One Public Estate’ project which is supporting joint working across public sector organisations to release land and property and boost economic growth, regeneration and public services.

“We are looking at options for the future location of our community learning disability service, which is likely to involve a move away from the Keresforth Centre to a suitable high-quality alternative in 2018. Regardless of the service’s eventual location, the community learning disability services team will continue to provide the same high standard of care and support. Outpatient appointments will continue to be provided from the Keresforth Centre for the time being, and we will let you know as soon as this changes.

“The services delivered from Barnsley Council’s specialist resource centre will also move away from the site. People will benefit from a wider range of activities in venues that are part of the community, and wherever possible, closer to their homes.”
