Volunteer Joan celebrated for community contribution
A volunteer who works closely with our linked charity Creative Minds in Barnsley has been chosen as volunteer of the year at the third annual Stars of Hoyland awards.
Joan Holbrook, who has established and run many successful community groups and Creative Minds projects, was chosen as the winner from a shortlist of candidates nominated by the public. She was presented with her award at a special ceremony in the town hall.
Her most recent venture is the creation of Hoyland community choir, who have appeared at numerous functions and events raising hundreds of pounds for local charities.
Joan is also an accomplished poet and writer, with proceeds from her published work going to charitable and good causes.
Dave Watson from Creative Minds said: “Joan is a huge asset to the community. She invests lots of time and energy into charitable and volunteering work always with enthusiasm and her own inimitable sense of fun and style.
“She is a great help to Creative Minds and we are really pleased at the recognition she has received for all her hard work and commitment.”
