Barnsley ‘Community Responders’ scheme
Our partner Barnsley Council is mobilising local residents to build volunteer capacity to help protect the most vulnerable over the coming weeks.
In partnership with BCVS, they’ve launched a ‘Community Responders’ scheme which is a call to arms for people to register if they are able to volunteer support.
The council is creating a database of volunteers, including their skills and training. This will be used to match with requests for support from council services, partners and external providers to the most vulnerable in our communities.
Examples of support that might be required include:
- Chatting to people on the phone who may be self-isolating so that they don’t get lonely
- Doing shopping or dropping off other supplies
- Delivering library books to help keep people busy
- Administrative work
You can view a short video about the community responders approach online.
Visit the council’s website and complete the e-form to register your details.
