“We work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year” – National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day 2022

Date:

Wednesday 15 June is National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day, recognising the essential work of estates and facilities staff in keeping healthcare settings running safely and smoothly.

Porter Tracey Stephenson gave an insight into her busy role to celebrate the day.

“My name is Tracey, and I’m one of the porters at the Trust. We work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year carrying out a whole range of tasks.

“I’ve been a part of this team for two years now, and I’m the first female porter to have been employed at Fieldhead in Wakefield. I’m one of three van drivers in our wider team of 11 covering Huddersfield, Halifax and Barnsley.

“Some of the jobs we do include delivering post and medications, five daily waste runs, five daily laundry runs, delivering meals at 9am and 2pm as well as supplies like bread and milk, moving large items such as beds and fridges around wards, sorting mail, washing and maintaining our vans, and dealing with fire alarms. We are very busy, but I enjoy all of it!

“There’s a really good atmosphere in my team and I have a good manager too. I like working with my team, and my busy and active job keeps me fit and healthy too!”
