Information about our services during industrial action by consultants

Date:

Consultants will be taking part in strike action from 7am on Thursday 24 August to 7am on Saturday 26 August, a total of two days. During strike action, consultants will provide an emergency care only service.

The care and safety of people who use our services is our highest priority, and it is important that people continue to use our services when they need them.

To help us continue giving high quality safe care to everyone, some of the usual activities our services provide may be limited during this time.

Some appointments with our services on Thursday 24 August and Friday 25 August 2023 will be rearranged. You will be contacted directly by your healthcare team if your appointment needs to be changed. If you have not been contacted, you should continue to attend your appointment as planned.

Consultants are senior doctors who not only see patients but are responsible for supervising junior doctors and other staff. When consultants take strike action they stop delivering care directly or providing supervision of the work of junior staff. Without supervision it may not be possible for some care delivered by junior doctors or other staff to take place safely.

If you have any questions, please speak to your healthcare team.

Information about getting urgent support if you or somebody you know are experiencing a mental health crisis is available on our website here.

Please use NHS services wisely during industrial action. This will help make sure that care is available to those who need it the most. If you need help, you can still contact 999 in a life-threatening emergency and NHS 111 online for urgent care. Information is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the NHS website, and local pharmacies and GP practices are also available.
