The Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA) awarded the Trust Veteran Aware reaccreditation, which honours our work in demonstrating the NHS’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant in identifying and sharing best practice.

The VCHA seeks to showcase high quality veterans’ healthcare and support NHS trusts to learn from each other by sharing what works. The Trust was first accredited by the VCHA in 2021.

To achieve the accreditation, the Trust had to submit evidence in support of eight standards. These included demonstrating how we identify service users from the veteran and Armed Forces communities to ensure they receive appropriate care, our links with local veteran and Armed Forces community services, and how our staff are trained to understand the needs of veterans and Armed Forces personnel.

Darren Phillips, who led on the Trust’s application, said: “Military personnel and veterans can face unique risks and challenges to their mental health. We’re proud to have been reaccredited as Veteran Aware, showing our commitment to making sure veterans and men and women from the Armed Forces get the right support when they need it.”
