Wakefield Recovery and Wellbeing College announce big changes from September

Date:

South West Yorkshire Partnership Teaching NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to announce our recovery college in Wakefield is set to improve its offer to our local communities. From September 2024, anyone aged 16 or over will be able to attend the college, which was previously only for those aged 18 and over. This will enable 16 and 17 year olds to attend a much larger variety of courses and workshops and benefit from the range of learning on offer.

Over the past two years the Recovery College has been piloting their Discovery College offer for 16-25 year olds. During that time, they’ve gathered valuable feedback from students, partners, professionals, carers, parents and members of the public about how the Discovery College has been working and whether any changes were needed to make it more suitable for our local population.

The change also means that should they wish to attend with a parent, carer, or just anyone else who is over the age of 25, they now can. To view and enrol on any of our Recovery College courses, head to our courses page. If you’re interested in what we have in place to ensure this works smoothly and everyone is safe when attending, please head to our FAQs section.

Recovery College Principal, Lindsey Taylor-Crossley said: “After several months of conversations with our stakeholders, listening to feedback on how to improve the current model for young people across the Wakefield district, we’re delighted to have everything in place to be able to make a significant change to our Recovery/Discovery College offer to be able to provide the service our local population have asked for. We are all extremely excited about this new offer and hope that you will share in our enthusiasm.”

Over the coming months the Recovery College will also be working hard behind the scenes with other services that specifically support young people to re-develop a Discovery College offer for high-school aged children and young people.
