“Volunteering didn’t just let me support others – it helped me believe in myself.” – Shehnaz’s volunteering story
“When I first joined the Trust in the cleaning services (domestic) team, I came with a quiet determination and a real wish to help. I didn’t know then how far that determination would take me.
“I wanted to learn and give back, so I started volunteering as a patient experience volunteer in the quality improvement team. I enjoyed meeting people, helping where I could, and being part of the team.
“Later, I also volunteered with the learning and development service as an admin and reception volunteer, which helped me grow even more.
“Volunteering didn’t just let me support others — it helped me believe in myself. I learned more about how the Trust works, built my confidence, and discovered strengths I didn’t realise I had. With that experience, I decided to take a big step and apply for a new role.
“Today, I’m proud to say I am part of the finance team, working in the patients’ bank as a cashier. My journey shows how volunteering can open doors, build skills, and help you grow in ways you never expected.
“I’m really proud of how far I’ve come.”
