Inclusion and Belonging Policy

Document category: Trust wide policy

Document date: July 23, 2026

Our Trust is committed to creating a workplace where every individual feels they genuinely belong, are valued for who they are, and can thrive.

We recognise that inclusion, dignity, and respect are essential to the wellbeing of our colleagues and to the quality of care we provide. A person-centred approach sits at the heart of everything we do. This means we actively listen, seek to understand, and treat everyone with compassion, fairness and humanity.

We aim to foster an environment that is welcoming, safe and supportive for people from all backgrounds, identities and life experiences. We believe that no one should be treated less favourably because of who they are. This includes, but not limited to, age, disability, gender identity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, caring responsibility, nationality, social background, employment status or trade union affiliation. The Trust applies this commitment across all areas of recruitment and employment.

Our policies and procedures are designed to ensure that decisions are made fairly, based on peoples’ skills, experience and potential.

We see diversity as a strength and aim to create an environment where everyone thrives, our mission vision and values guide us to be respectful, open honest and transparent. It is these values that will ensure we achieve our strategic objective of becoming the best place to work and learn.

We will comply with the Equality Act 2010 and meet requirements of the Public Sector Duty (PSED) which requires public bodies to actively consider how their decisions and policies affect people with protective characteristics This means we:

  • Work to eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • Promote equal opportunities for everyone
  • Encourage positive relationships between people from different backgrounds.

We will be open about how we meet these duties by setting clear equality objectives and sharing relevant information to show how we are doing.
