Training

The children’s speech and language therapy team offers various training courses for professionals working with children speech and language difficulties. Some of these courses are also suitable for parents and carers. To discuss course details please contact the team. Our training courses have recently been audited by the Clinical Governance Support Team. Read the 2013 Training Audit Report.

 Wellcomm
Wellcomm toolkit Please contact the Communication and Interaction Team (01226 773377) to ask them about training possibilities. A key worker said, “We have used WellComm assessment with lots of children and everyone has found it really useful as a tool as it signposts us to activities for each child. It’s great to give us a starting point for children new to the setting.”A centre manager said, “We have used WellComm assessment on all 2 year olds in our setting and it has helped us to develop our practices. We now run small groups with our 2 year olds provided by the WellComm tool.”
Additional training
Schools/settings can request whole staff training. This could be run on inset days or as twilight sessions. We have training packages already available and can tailor training to meet your setting’s needs.

 

Available now:

  • English as an additional language – training for health or education professionals about how children’s language develops in a home with two or more languages. Contact helen.cooper@swyt.nhs.uk for more information or to book a place. – Next date is planned around May/June 2018

Available soon:

  • Eating and drinking difficulties – training for health professionals who would like to know more about eating and drinking difficulties in children. Register your interest for this course by calling us on 01226 644331
