The equipment, adaptation and sensory impairment service provide assistance to people with physical and/or sensory disabilities. We help people make the most of their abilities to remain as independent as possible in their own homes. We provide advice and information, assistance with obtaining specialist equipment, assistance with adaptations to the home, advice regarding moving and handling, mobility training for people with visual impairment.

The service includes:

  • The equipment and adaptations assessment team
  • The sensory impairment team

What can we help with?

  • Assistance with obtaining appropriate equipment and/or adaptations to meet daily living needs
  • Group work – visual and deaf awareness training – for service users and professionals
  • Mobility training
  • Rehabilitation – developing kitchen skills
  • Onward referral
  • Impartial advice and information regarding equipment and adaptations

How do I refer to the service?

To refer to the service, you should be a Barnsley resident and have an illness or condition that is long-term and limits your ability to manage daily living tasks.

Referrals to the equipment, adaptation and sensory impairment service are accepted from

  • Patients(self-referral)
  • AHPs
  • Carers/family
  • GPs
  • Health visitors
  • Hospital staff
  • Housing association
  • Local authority staff
  • Voluntary services
