Harmony choir is a project developed for service users, carers and staff at Fieldhead, Wakefield. The choir will encourage people to try a new hobby whilst meeting new people, increasing confidence and social skills as well as improving overall wellbeing.
The project, led by music based charity HOOT, will take place over 10 months and includes music from all eras and generations so there’s something for everyone.
Singing has a number of health and wellbeing benefits and is a great way of boosting confidence, self-esteem, uplifting mood and decreasing stress levels. It can also increase lung capacity and mental awareness as well as improve posture.
After six months of sessions, ‘singing ambassadors’ will be chosen and will receive training and skills to allow them to lead the groups. Singing champions will also be developed with an aim to engage other users to try out the sessions.
