The Huddersfield Mission café provides affordable and nutritious food but is also a recognised safe place and a source of support and advice for a wide range of vulnerable people. It provides advice to about 70 people a week and a similar number use the café each day.
The ‘building resilience’ project runs activities such as cash budgeting, creative writing, art courses, basic IT courses, and Cook and Eat courses.
Activities are coordinated by the café’s advice and activities officer, who involves volunteers and expert sessional workers in the activities. The project utilises the skills and resources of the Mission to support the activities – for example in their IT suite and commercial kitchen.
The Mission seeks to develop a sense of hope – that life can be better for all. It works with people that have long term issues and those that suddenly have had life changing events, and builds positive relationships with people so that they can feel secure and look to develop.
Huddersfield Mission runs a café which holds a five-star rating and a ‘gold’ healthy eating award. As well as serving low cost, nutritious food, the café is also a great place to come for advice and support on issues such as drug and alcohol problems, rough sleeping, homelessness, tenancy problems, benefits and debt. The café is open Monday- Friday from 12 – 2pm.
Need a town centre meeting room close to the station and on a bus route? Huddersfield Mission has fully accessible rooms to cater for 2 – 300 people available from £10 per hour, with discounts for long term bookings. The Mission can provide refreshments, projector etc, and an IT suite is also available for hire with ten computers. Small office lets are also available. Mission café food vouchers
Many people would like to give to the homeless and those in need, yet are often unsure of the best way to provide help. Huddersfield Mission has come up with a solution – Mission café food vouchers.
Mission café food vouchers allow the customer to enjoy a full homemade meal, a dessert and any drink, redeemable at the Mission café. As well as this, the customer can sit down with one of the members of the Advice and Support team if needed.
The food vouchers are available for purchase individually for £3.50 or in books of ten at a discounted price of £30 at the Huddersfield Mission reception.
