A new peer walking group is now being run at Pathways in Kirklees to support people build their independence as they move forward in their recovery journey.
The group meets weekly at Pathways and is a chance for participants to plan walks together which they would like to undertake around the Kirklees area and further afield. Through the group, participants are not only given the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, boosting their physical activity but also build their skills as they take on roles within the group such as chair and treasurer.
The group are supported by the team at Pathways and Support to Recovery to manage any funds needed, undertake training to help them run the group and experience making decisions and keeping accurate records.
Through the advice, guidance and support that this group give each other, participants are able to grow in confidence and improve their wellbeing, with the intention that the group will become self-sufficient in the future.
