Space for Me is a project run in partnership between directorates within Calderdale Council – the Victoria Theatre (Communities Directorate) and Calderdale Young Carers (Children and Young People’s Directorate).
The project offers young carers (under 18) in Calderdale access to drama therapy services in the form of therapy or therapeutic sessions delivered by two qualified drama therapists.
Individual sessions are also available and offered to service users to supplement the main group programme and offer an opportunity to work on material outside of the main group.
The project uses drama and theatre to improve the wellbeing, health and quality of life of young carers in Calderdale. It offers a high quality, consistent and confidential space in which to safely explore issues and concerns arising from complex life roles and responsibilities, and provides space and time for the young carer dedicated to their personal growth and development.
Through drama therapy, young carers will be supported to:
- Develop coping skills, strengths and resilience by:
-Providing and developing opportunities for self-expression through creative processes
– Offer opportunities to share personal material
– Explore and share coping strategies and difficulties
