The Art House, working in partnership with Warwick Community Group is delivering a series of creative workshops for the residents of the Warwick estate in Knottingley. The workshops intend to encourage participants to engage with the environment of the Warwick estate in creative ways, fostering a sense of community identity, local pride and improving wellbeing.
The project will result in publicly displayed work by participants on the Warwick estate and as part of Wakefield Artwalk. Participants will use photography, creative writing, bookmaking and sculpture to respond to their surroundings and share their experiences.
Warwick Community Group will deliver the project to the people on the estate and they aim to promote healthy living and a provide a range of community services and events to improve the quality of life for people on the estate. Activities attract a diverse range of users, including those at the risk of isolation through old age, unemployment and disability.
The project also aims to improve self-esteem and confidence of those taking part, improving the mood of people on the estate and reducing the symptoms of depression whilst strengthening the social bond of those taking part.
