The Hepworth Wakefield

The Hepworth Wakefield (THW) has established a new programme aimed at engaging young people, aged 16 to 25, who are at risk of or are already classed as Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).

Their Integrated Youth Programme provides a safe and supportive environment for young people to access art based activities at the gallery that will raise their aspirations and develop their employability, social and life skills.

The programme was developed following feedback from young people who have taken part in previous projects and offers a level based programme for the development of participants. In level one, THW offers free one-day drop-in activities where participants will work with creative practitioners and explore activities including sculpture, film-making, creative writing, music and print-making that relate closely to the gallery.

Participants will develop key skills such as self-confidence, independent thinking and respect. The work will be done at their pace and until they have developed the confidence to advance to the next level of the programme.

The Hepworth Wakefield will offer a link to formal learning with partner organisations such as Wakefield College and acts as a vital starting point for young people.
