Garden assistant (The Pad) volunteer role
The Pad is set in an enclosed garden area (within the caring garden at Fieldhead) and provides a therapy area for the canine befrienders service. The role of volunteer gardener is required to maintain the enclosed garden area.
Role responsibilities
The volunteer gardener will be responsible for carrying out routine maintenance of the garden area during the Spring, Summer and Autumn months. Tasks include planting bulbs, flowers and shrubs, weeding and clearing borders, collecting grass and leaves for composting and pruning. From time to time the role may involve one-off projects such as preparing the garden area for an event.
We recognise that this role has a very strong therapeutic aspect to it in promoting wellbeing through exercise, creativity and being out in the open.
The nature of the role means the volunteer will regularly come in to close contact with the Trust’s therapy dogs.
Experience
- Experience of gardening or horticulture would be welcome although this is not essential.
- A love of the outdoors and a willingness to work on a range of different gardening tasks.
- The ability to have a basic grasp of health and safety in the garden and a willingness to attend volunteer related training workshops relevant to this role.
- An appreciation of dogs and willingness to be around them.
