Star bereavement support group

Summary

We will be using creative approaches including arts, crafts, drama and film to engage children and young people in developing healthy ways of coping with grief.

We work therapeutically and practically to support children and young people when someone dies, ensuring they are able to recognise and cope with feelings and aiming for mental and emotional wellbeing and encouraging the building of support networks within a groups setting.

Outcomes 

  • Improved mental health and emotional well being
  • Increased self-confidence and self-efficacy
  • Ability to understand and recognise feelings
  • Building resilience to stress and traumatic feelings
  • Interaction with others
  • Self-management skills

Referral

  • Self-referral- over 16’s
  • Self-referral- parents and carers
  • Referral from a professional ie school, GP or organisation
  • Anyone can access free telephone support
  • Children aged 0-5 are supported via family support sessions
  • Children aged 5-19 have access to individual, group and family support
  • Parents and carers can access advice

  • All of the options include therapeutic and counselling approaches, practical strategies for coping and skills-based work
