As part of this project, we are running 10 weekly music workshops for adults with a learning disability. Participants are invited and encouraged to learn new musical skills during the workshops – which they have the chance to showcase at a sharing performance for friends and families at the end of the 10 weeks.
During the workshops, we explore landmarks and landmark events in participant’s lives. People are then encouraged to interpret these creatively through the music and song activities using Xylosound’s large wooded musical instruments.
By taking part in the workshops, people have the chance to meet others, form friendships and boost their self-esteem and confidence by learning a new skill that they can showcase to their family and friends.
The workshops take place every Friday at The Watershed in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield.
