To enable occupational therapists to offer a wider range of therapeutic activities to help service user recovery a new mountain biking group has been set up. To be able to facilitate the cycling sessions in a safe and meaningful way occupational therapists from the ward have completed the Trail Leadership Award with the national cycling organisation CTC.
The group provides an opportunity for two service users, alongside two members of staff, to engage in the activity to help improve their physical and mental health. Positive results include improved self-esteem and confidence, better physical health, increased social interaction and a reduction in stress.
