The Arts Train project is led by Home Valley Sharing Memories, a group of elderly people in their 70s, 80s and 90s. The group worked with service users with mental health problems to prepare and stage a month long exhibition of their work at the North Light Gallery in Huddersfield.
The group produced artwork to showcase at the exhibition which focused on journeys and life experiences. Each individual turned a shoe box into a train carriage which included drawings and collages that represented their interests, journeys and aspirations. The shoe boxes were placed together to make a train which was viewed by members of the public at the exhibition.
The project helped service users to socialise with others, learn new skills, talk about life experiences and see their work displayed in a gallery environment.
