Welcome to our eating, drinking and swallowing (EDS) training page

This webpage includes all the information and resources you need to host our eating, drinking and swallowing course.

You can save handouts and make them available to staff in your setting before the training for them to access.

Handouts can also be used to review learning after the session.

After the session – make sure quiz and feedback links are available to your learners.

Before and on the training day

If the session is being delivered via Teams – please read this Instructions handout.

For sessions being delivered in person:

  • Ensure all participants and places are booked via Eventbrite and names provided to us
  • Have an available plasma for us to deliver the training
  • Ensure that the current training course slides (see below) are accessible on your school system. Check any links within the training can be accessed by the therapist.
  • Make sure there is a staff member available to log in our therapist onto your system, so they can deliver the training.
  • We need a person to be a point of contact on the day, to help resolve any technical issues.
  • Provide requested equipment and resources to run the training – e.g. malteasers or similar for practical tasks.
  • Ensure that the room is set out for learners to be able to view the slides
  • Allow for 90 minutes for us to deliver the course. This is to deliver the training and for learners to take a quiz.

Course materials

The things you will need to host our training:

  • CURRENT EDS TRAINING COURSE – please ensure this powerpoint is accessible on your system for us to deliver the training. You can print or make the slides for your learners.
  • Please note this training needs to be delivered by an experienced and trained speech and language therapist. It should not be delivered by any school staff.
  • Quiz – Ensure the quiz link is shared with your learners. Learners will need to access the quiz after the session. They need to pass the quiz to be competent to support people with eating, drinking and swallowing in your setting.
  • Please share the: quiz completion instructions with your learners to help them with quiz submissions and being able to get a copy of their mark whilst waiting for certificates.

  • Feedback link – Please share this link with your learners – it helps us to evaluate the courses we run.

After the training

  • The speech and language therapist who delivered the training to your setting will aim to check the quizzes within 2 weeks
  • We will provide a list over email of people who have passed
  • A certificate with the date of the training will be available here for you to download for learners – they can add their name and keep for their records. EDS certificate Sept 26 
  • You must only issue certificates to learners who have been confirmed by the SALT team to have achieved the pass mark
