Earlier this year, we once again welcomed guests from ASL Gallura, a public healthcare organisation based in Italy. The third productive meeting took place at the Laura Mitchell Health and Wellbeing Centre in Halifax, as part of the regular teaching sessions delivered by Calderdale Core Pathway for mental health professionals.

The session was organised by Trust Clinical Psychologist Dr Nicola Meloni, who invited guest speaker Dr Marcello G. Tanca, Clinical Psychologist from the Health Centre located in Tempio Pausania of ASL Gallura. Last year’s meeting, held on 21 May 2025, had laid the foundations for an ongoing collaboration between the two public healthcare systems.

During this session, Dr Meloni and Dr Tanca discussed the importance of proper nutrition for both general health and mental wellbeing, emphasising the vital role played by the bidirectional connection within the ‘mind–body’ relationship.

Dr Tanca delivered a focused talk on sugar addiction – a condition that involves the brain’s reward system which can lead to withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, lethargy, anxiety and low mood and the association of high sugar intake with inflammation.

Dr Meloni and Dr Tanca expressed their satisfaction with the continued collaboration and extended their thanks to the Trust. They gave particular acknowledgment to Dr Jo Robinson (Clinical Lead), Dr Rachael Theed (responsible for the teaching sessions within the Core team), and Dr Antonio F. Cossu (Director of the Tempio P. District of ASL Gallura), Dr Anna Maria F. Spezzigu (Coordinator of the Health Center located in Tempio P.) and Dr Daniela Marotto (Head of the Rheumatology unit of ASL Gallura) for their valued contributions.
