Covid Heroes: G

Take a look at who has been recognised as a Covid Hero with a first name that begins with G:

Gail Waterworth, senior health care support worker/ wellbeing champion

“Gail has been supportive of staff and service users during the difficult time of Covid. During the lockdown period, Gail has been providing support to staff and service users, as a wellbeing champion by providing regular 1:1 supervision and conducting mindfulness sessions on the ward with staff and peers.

“Gail has been working hard, even after the shift has ended to ensure all jobs are completed and all service users are seen to before she goes home. She likes to make sure everyone is safe before staff leave the ward.

“Gail has ensured staff have taken their breaks and patients who are isolating in their bedroom are having their meals (service users have to isolate for at least 3-4 days upon admission). Gail has been going the extra mile, ensuring they have activities to pass time in their room and make the isolation period a little bit easier for them. She has bought things for service users to use on the ward and tried to keep them occupied.

“Gail is the Covid Hero of ward 18.”

Gary Garvey, contracts manager

“There is no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic has been an unprecedented period within the NHS affecting our service users, front line staff and many support services. The demand for PPE and many other medical products soared way beyond our previous usage creating a huge strain on the procurement team.

“Its on these occasions when many staff step up and Gary Garvey with support from the procurement team is such a person. Gary became a focal point and a “go to” person for a vast range of PPE and medical product items. Gary has managed the Trusts PPE stocks for nearly two years and during this time he has been able to ensure that front line staff had the PPE items and medical equipment they required enabling them to continue to provide safe health care services to our service users.

“I can genuinely say that without the help, assistance and support provided by Gary over the pandemic period the delivery of a successful procurement service over this two year period would have been made extremely difficult, his knowledge, experience and dedication has been invaluable and he has truly been a Covid Hero.”

Gav Sykes, CPN in the Kirklees intensive home based treatment team

“Worked throughout the Covid 19 pandemic maintaining a frontline service and providing face to face interventions and visits.”

Gloria Ayuso-Manso, mental health practitioner

“For her positive can do attitude and her unfailing commitment to both service users and our team throughout the pandemic.”

Graham Moss, senior transport/portering manager

“The demand for PPE products and medical items over the last 20 months has been massive, clearly far exceeding all other years in the NHS as we have looked to address the Covid-19 pandemic.

“To get the PPE and medical items to our front line staff has been a task but one that the procurement team has managed with the huge assistance of the portering and transport team managed by Graham Moss. Graham’s reaction to the needs of the front line staff has been exemplary and he has organised his team (which at times has been thin on the ground due to Covid), to ensure that front line staff have the items they needed to provide safe healthcare to our service users. He has responded to emergency requests at the drop of a hat, rejigged delivery schedules to meet demand all of which was carried out in amongst his teams normal duties.

“Graham has undoubtedly been a star throughout the Covid-19 period and his contribution to the Trust and its front line staff cannot be overstated he truly is a Covid Hero.”
