Cheswold Park Hospital hosts successful Physical Health Fair
Patients and staff at Cheswold Park Hospital came together on 10 September for a successful Physical Health Fair, promoting healthy lifestyles and increasing awareness of important physical health topics.
Organised by the hospital’s Occupational Therapy Team, the event featured a range of interactive stalls and activities covering subjects such as sepsis awareness, flu prevention, healthy sleep habits and the benefits of regular physical activity. Attendees were able to access practical health information in a fun and engaging environment while enjoying healthy snacks and taking part in games.
One of the highlights of the day was a static bike challenge led by one of the hospital’s physiotherapists. The activity encouraged friendly competition and demonstrated how regular exercise can contribute to improved physical and mental wellbeing.
Visitors also had the opportunity to speak with a Trust catering dietitian, who provided expert advice on healthy eating, portion sizes and making informed dietary choices.
A popular attraction at the event was the falls prevention escape room, which helped service users learn how to reduce their risk of falls in an engaging and interactive way. Participants identified common hazards such as poor lighting, trailing cables, clothing on the floor, damaged mobility equipment and unsuitable footwear.
The activity sparked valuable conversations, with many reflecting on their own environments and considering changes to improve safety. Feedback showed increased awareness of fall risks and practical steps to reduce them.
Some of the feedback received included:
- “I like to keep my bedroom light off, but I will make sure I don’t leave my clothes on the floor now.”
- “I am going out on work experience next week and I’ll be able to look around and identify any fall risks.”
- “I’ve learnt a lot today and have enjoyed everything.”
The hospital would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the event such a success, including colleagues from BeWell Doncaster, whose support was greatly appreciated. The team looks forward to building on this partnership, strengthening community links and creating further opportunities for patients in the future.
The Physical Health Fair was an excellent example of collaborative working, bringing together staff, patients and partners to support healthier lifestyles and promote both physical and mental wellbeing.
