Carers Week 2009 is taking place this week between 8th -14th June and members of a carers group who meet regularly at Fieldhead Hospital in Wakefield will be enjoying a special event to mark the occasion.

On 10th June, the group will hold a meeting as normal, followed by a special buffet lunch and some live music, giving the group’s members the chance to have a well earned break, relax and enjoy themselves.

The carer’s mental health dialogue group was set up by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to give carers a voice and allow them to communicate their needs, get information about how they can access help and find out what is happening in mental health services. It also enables them to meet other carers and share their experiences.

Public involvement development worker Lynn Fowley said, "The carer’s dialogue group is such a useful source of information for the Trust. Communicating with these very important people helps us tailor our services to meet the needs of the people we serve. The Carers Week lunch will offer a great opportunity for the group to come together and be rewarded for all their hard work."

Carers Week highlights and celebrates the incredible contribution that carers make to society, whilst campaigning for greater recognition and support for this important group. It also sets out to inform those carers who are unaware, of the services and benefits they are entitled to.
