Football fun day for people with learning disabilities

Date:

Local people with learning disabilities are invited to take part in a football fun day on Tuesday 20th March at the Zone in Huddersfield.

The day is being organised by staff from South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides specialist NHS learning disability services to people in Barnsley, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.

During the football fun day, which runs from 10.45am – 2.00pm at the Zone, 1 St Andrew’s Road, Huddersfield, people will be able to get involved with lots of football related activities including 5-a-side matches, penalty shoot outs and coaching sessions.

The football fun day has been organised by the Trust’s inclusion team, and is the first of a series of fun days that will be held throughout 2012.

Nigel McLoughlin, professional lead nurse for learning disabilities at the Trust said, "We know that physical activity and social inclusion all make a big difference to wellbeing and this event is a great opportunity for local people to get involved. We want people with learning disabilities who use our services to be able to try something new to enhance their wellbeing and sport is a great way to bring people together and build a sense of community.”
