World Mental Health Day kicks off in style

An annual football tournament celebrating World Mental Health Day returns for a fifth successive year.

The Good Mood tournament includes teams from Calderdale, Wakefield, Kirklees, Sheffield and Leeds. Featuring players from South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Good Mood League as well as guest teams, the annual tournament helps to raise awareness of World Mental Health Day across the region.

The Good Mood league is made up of teams whose players who have all used mental health services. Teams train weekly across the region, coming together for events like this several times a year.

Debbie Nicholson, day service worker for South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said, “Physical activity is great for mental wellbeing. Taking part in sports such as football promotes positive self-esteem and social inclusion – it’s an ideal way to meet other people and socialise, with the added benefits of improved fitness and possibly a trophy!

“We have a lot of talented and enthusiastic players in the Good Mood football league who always ensure the tournament’s success. Football is a fantastic spectator sport, too – support from the sidelines can be a real encouragement – so we welcome friends and family who wish to come along and watch the matches.”

The Good Mood Football League event takes place at The Zone, St Andrew’s Road,Huddersfield on Thursday 11th October from 11am.
