NHS Trust invites local people in Barnsley to stand for election

Date:

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides a range of community, mental health and learning disability services to people in Barnsley, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield, is inviting people to make a difference to their local NHS services and stand in their upcoming Members’ Council elections.

The Members’ Council was established five years ago to represent the views of the Trust’s 17,000 members and to help the Trust reach decisions. The Trust is now looking for more people to stand for election to the Council.

The Council’s role is to make sure that the board of directors, which retains responsibility for the day to day running of the Trust, is accountable to the local community.

The Members’ Council is made up of 33 people; publicly elected members, elected staff representatives and appointed representatives from key local partner organisations. The Council formally meets at least four times a year.

The Trust is inviting local people in Barnsley to stand for the two available public places on its Members’ Council.

The Trust’s chief executive Steven Michael said, “I want to encourage people in Barnsley who are interested in making a difference to the NHS services in their local communities to consider standing for election. The Members’ Council is a vital part of the Trust; it helps us to shape future strategy and plays a key role in many important issues.”

Nominations must be made by Friday 14 March 2014. To stand or vote in the elections, individuals must be a member of the Trust. To join the Trust as a member, contact the membership office on 01924 327567 or email membership@swyt.nhs.uk

To make sure that the elections are completely independent and transparent, they are conducted by the Electoral Reform Service (ERS). ERS can be contacted with any questions about the elections on 0208 365 8909.

Voting in the elections will run from 2nd-25th April 2014.
