Today is the day to get smokefree
We’re promoting the ‘Today is the day’ stop smoking campaign, promoting the message that it’s never too late – for support to quit, search Yorkshire Smokefree.
The campaign, which runs across 22 local authority areas, is running 30 second radio ads on Capital FM Yorkshire locally as well as adverts on websites such as Mail Online and Metro.
The idea is to motivate poorer, more disadvantaged smokers to stop smoking, by making them aware the risks of continuing to smoke during the coronavirus pandemic and the help available to quit.
Susan Jones, our stop smoking specialist from Yorkshire Smokefree Calderdale, said: “We all need to try to protect ourselves and our families right now, but especially if you smoke.
“Smoking damages the lungs and the immune system, making it harder to fight off infections.
“It also increases your risks of heart disease, diabetes, COPD, stroke and cancer.
“And that means if you do get coronavirus, symptoms could be more severe.
“Your health starts to improve from the moment you stop.”
