Welcome to Spring

Date:

We recently organised an online funday for local adults with learning disabilities.

The event was a partnership between our learning disability staff, Trust linked charity Creative Minds and The Huddersfield Giants Community Trust.

Normally, the popular fundays take place face to face, but due to the pandemic the ‘Welcome to Spring’ event was held virtually. It took place on Tuesday 23 February 2021 and was attended by 30 people.

Activities included making pom-poms’ and sing-alongs to popular tunes with Makathon – a language programme that uses signs and symbols to help communication. Participants also joined in the mysterious ‘hairy toe’ game with Jackie Craig from Creative Minds.

Alex Feather, Creative Minds coordinator, said: “The event was a huge success and helped bring people together to engage and socialise. We were able to tell people about the benefits of taking part in activities and working with Creative Minds.”

Joanne Lister, The Prince of Wales Hospice’s activity co-ordinator, said: “Well that was lovely, I really enjoyed it. Such amazing energy and it was lovely to see so many smiling faces. Thank you so much for letting me join. It was really useful, and I will be reporting back to the hospice.”
