Dr Caroline Johnson
Chief nurse and director of quality and professions
Dr Caroline Johnson is an experienced nurse leader with over 25 years’ experience across mental health, community, acute and system-level services.
Since qualifying as a mental health nurse, she has held a range of senior clinical, operational and executive roles, with a strong emphasis on compassionate leadership, quality improvement and patient safety.
Caroline joined our Trust as chief nurse and director of quality and professions, bringing extensive experience from her previous executive role at Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust and senior positions within Integrated Care Boards and NHS Foundation Trusts. She has led large-scale improvement programmes, strengthened quality governance arrangements, and has a particular interest in co‑production, patient experience and creating cultures where staff and service users feel valued and heard.
Caroline holds a PhD in Medicine from the University of Manchester and postgraduate qualifications in cognitive behavioural interventions, leadership and quality improvement. She is professionally accountable for clinical governance, safety, infection prevention and control, and the professional leadership of nursing, allied health professionals and psychological professions across the Trust.
She is committed to developing inclusive, learning cultures and ensuring the delivery of safe, high‑quality, person-centred care for people and communities across Barnsley, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.
