Working alongside the media production company, One to One Development Trust, the CAMHS Young People’s Advisory Group (CYPAG) has produced a DVD.
One to One Development Trust facilitated the 6 month project working with the group of young people who use the CAMHS service to create a film exploring how mental health issues affect young people’s lives. The ideas for the content in the film were created by the group based on their own experiences.
The film discusses the stigma of mental health and explains what provision is out there to help young people. The project was ‘process led’ with a strong focus on engagement, participants learning new skills and developing confidence. The group were able to take part in the whole process from initial research and development through to creating a finished film.
The process was defined in four key stages: research and development (gathering of ideas, assigning who will do what), production (learning filmmaking skills and interviewing techniques – working on the film on location), post-production (reviewing the material, making editorial decisions), screening and launch (planning out the launch event of the film, press releases, publicity, venue, presentation at the event).
The film has been made into a DVD which will help people learn about the experiences of young people who use Wakefield CAMHS.
