Mary and Loraine

When Loraine lost her sight suddenly during the Covid-19 pandemic, the equipment, adaptations and sensory impairment service stepped in to support her.

Senior rehabilitation officer for visually impaired people Mary Sykes has been working with Loraine for the past two years. Mary has been supporting Loraine to get around her local area safely and independently using her cane.

Loraine is now set to receive a guide dog who will take over Mary’s hard work, allowing Loraine to visit her local shops and GP surgery independently.

The team, who regularly set up and run groups for people with a sight and hearing impairment, are really proud of both Mary and Loraine.
