About the service
Our service is provided to Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust where the team provides a mental health liaison service for emergency departments and outlying ward areas at Dewsbury, Pontefract and Pinderfields hospitals.
The team provides a psychiatric assessment to patients who arrive at accident and emergency with a perceived mental health need. We provide a range of treatments using the various specialist skills members of our team have to ensure patients’ mental health needs are given the same priority as their physical health needs.
We have developed an assessment and signposting system to address the psychological needs of individuals with a range of physical problems, including those with medically unexplained symptoms. Following an assessment, we organise and plan for further psychiatric care based on a person’s specific mental health needs.
Why would someone choose the service?
Our team are friendly, approachable and always have the individuals best interests at the heart of the work we do.
Staff you may meet
- Nurses who choose to specialise in the mental health branch of nursing work with GPs, psychiatrists, psychologists, and others, to help care for patients. Increasingly, care is given in the community, with mental health nurses visiting patients and their families at home, in residential centres, in prisons or in specialist clinics or units.
