Local care home supporting NHS wellbeing month
People who receive care from Ivy Care homes in Wakefield will be holding a special ‘Ivy’s Got Talent’ event in support of the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s wellbeing month.
The Trust is the local provider of specialist NHS mental health and learning disability services and it is hosting wellbeing month throughout October in a bid to boost people’s physical and mental wellbeing at the same time as tackling the stigma that surrounds mental health.
Ivy Care Homes knows only too well the difficulties people with mental health and learning disabilities face as it provides specialist care to people with learning disabilities and complex needs.
The Yorkshire based organisation currently has two specialist services situated in West Yorkshire. Ivy Cottage in the Wakefield village of Ackton provides accommodation to 14 adults with learning disabilities and associated mental health issues. Ivy Dene, which is in Ferrybridge, is a care home for 14 adults also with learning disabilities and associated mental health issues.
Ivy Care Homes in Wakefield will be backing the Trust’s wellbeing month on Friday 15th October by holding a special talent show for people who use services, their family and friends.
The talent show will be an opportunity for people who use the service to show off their special skills at the same time as taking part in a number of games to raise money for charity.
The talent show, which coincides with Ivy Care Homes 10th anniversary, is just one of over 200 events that have been listed on the Trust’s website for wellbeing month and many of these will be taking place in Wakefield.
The Trust’s chair, Joyce Catterick, said, “As 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem, the month of wellbeing is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues, reduce stigma and promote wellbeing. We want people in our local communities to be able to try something new to enhance their wellbeing. I’m delighted to see local organisations such as Ivy Care Homes getting involved.”
