NHS event offers Barnsley people an insight into diabetes

A local NHS trust that provides mental health and community services is inviting people in and around Barnsley to another free talk offering an insight into diabetes on Tuesday 11th October at the Metrodome, Queens Ground, Queens Road, Barnsley, S71 1AN.

The education talk is being held by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and is an opportunity for local people to find out more about a common health problem.

According to figures from Diabetes UK, in the UK diabetes affects approximately 2.8 million people. More than one million people are thought to have undiagnosed type 2 diabetes

Led by the Trust’s associate medical director Dr Keith Sands, the event is an educational talk on diabetes followed by time for questions. The event is free and is open to anybody, so local people are invited to come along with friends, colleagues or family.

This is the third event being held in Barnsley as part of the Trust’s educational events series with events covering dementia and diabetes. Local people can come to whichever date or venue suits them best:

• Tuesday 11th October at the Metrodome, Queens Ground, Queens Road, Barnsley, S71 1AN (Diabetes)

• Tuesday18th October at The Core, County Way, Barnsley, S70 2JW (Dementia)

All events begin with refreshments at 6.30pm and the talk will commence at 7pm. The event will end at 8pm.

Dr Sands, the Trust’s associate medical director for inpatient and community health services in Barnsley, said, "With diabetes being such a common health problem in the UK it is vital people understand the signs and how best to manage it. Anyone is welcome to come along to find out a little more. It might be that you have diabetes, care for someone who does or you simply want to gain an insight into this health problem, please join us."
