Enfield Downs got talent

Date:

On December 3rd 2011, Enfield Down hosted an event to celebrate the talents of both staff and service users. There was a variety of talents on display from poetry reading to solo and choir singing. The event was well supported by friends and family members, along with local community businesses who donated prizes for the raffle and gifts for those who were brave enough to perform.

A panel made up of staff and service users gave all participants a constructive appraisal of their performance, highlighting the qualities of their talent. The event was organised by health care support worker Stephanie Mitchell along with other members of staff. Stephanie’s inspiration for the event was to give people an opportunity to express themselves and showcase their talents and abilities.

Stephanie said, "I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and level of motivation shown by the service users and staff for the event".

The unit plans to develop more scope for service users to express themselves through their chosen medium and to celebrate individuality, giving opportunity for achievement and acknowledge the skills and abilities they all have to offer. Friends and family members expressed their gratitude and pleasure at the event with one family commenting that the event was "fantastic and brilliantly organised with a positive and supportive atmosphere".

Following the event the Enfield Down choir was invited to join the HOOT Christmas celebration and to perform their songs at the party, this was warmly appreciated by all those who attended.
