Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do it, Barnsley!

Date:

A popular healthy lifestyle programme for children and their families is about to begin in Barnsley.

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is running the free Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do it! (MEND) programme at venues across Barnsley, for children aged 2-13 years old.

The programme aims to help children achieve a healthier lifestyle by improving eating habits, increasing physical activity levels and boosting self esteem. The programme is tailored to the age of the child and includes fun activities around healthy eating, physical activity and adopting good habits.

Nicola Lang, of Barnsley’s Change 4 Life team, said, “Programmes run for between eight and ten weeks, one or two sessions per week. Sessions are focused on helping families to find out about healthy eating, portion control and understanding food labelling. We also run creative play or physical activity workshops during each session.  Children and families taking part receive items such as t-shirts, water bottles and information leaflets, all designed to inspire children to keep up the good work at home.”

“Sessions take place during the day for the 2-4 age group and after school for those aged five and over. We still have places available and encourage anyone who thinks their child would benefit from this support to contact us.”

New programmes begin in October with further dates planned for 2013.

Anyone interested in attending with their child or children should contact the Change 4 Life team on 01226 737060.
