Wakefield stop smoking service supporting the Stoptober challenge

StoptoberLogoStoptober-England’s mass 28 day stop smoking attempt – is back following its huge success last year which saw 160,000 people complete the challenge.

During October, Wakefield stop smoking service, which is provided by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, is encouraging smokers throughout Wakefield to take part.

It is known that if you can stop smoking for 28 days you are five times more likely to stay smokefree, and Stoptober leads smokers through a detailed step-by-step programme to help them achieve this goal.

Many famous faces, organisations and employers are supporting the stop smoking campaign and Wakefield stop smoking service wants to encourage local people to use this opportunity to quit.

Someone who quits smoking for Stoptober, and doesn’t smoke again, could gain an extra seven days of life, every 28 days, for the rest of their life.

Sandra Wilson, service manager for Wakefield stop smoking service said, “Those undertaking the 28 day challenge are five times more likely to stay smokefree and Stoptober’s ambition is to help smokers achieve this goal. But people in Wakefield can be assured their not on their own. Our service will help them every step of the way in Stoptober and beyond. I would encourage all smokers in Wakefield to take the opportunity to get involved and make a quit attempt this Stoptober.”

Stoptober provides smokers with a range of free support including a new stop smoking pack, a 28-day mobile phone app and text support with daily updates and quitting advice, detailed tools and tips for coping, as well as the encouragement and support from thousands of people quitting together through Stoptober social media.
