Fieldhead master plan update

Date:

The Fieldhead master plan supports our on-going commitment to improve services for local residents and includes a complete redevelopment of non-secure units as well as older people’s inpatient unit.

The project is being paid for by Trust capital funds and we are not tied into a maintenance contract

The work is completely transforming the facilities and involves rebuilding on the existing site. Service users are benefiting from purpose built state-of-the-art therapeutic areas, en-suite bathrooms and vastly improved patient relaxation areas to help people on their journey to recovery.

Our new adult acute mental health centre at Fieldhead Hospital in Wakefield opened in September 2017. The Unity Centre treats patients from across our geographical footprint. It incorporates the Stanley male adult acute mental health ward and Walton psychiatric intensive care ward. There is also a new section 136 suite.

That was the end of our first major phase of building works. The next phase is now underway with the main entrance/visitor centre and Nostell ward under construction, with the full refurbishment of Priory to follow for the new fit-for-purpose Chantry ward.

Work continues on the main entrance/visitor centre and Nostell ward. The Interserve team are busy preparing for the completion and handover later on this year. Here’s the latest update from site.

The bedrooms are now complete ready for cleaning and final fixtures and fittings. Contractors are now starting to lay the corridor flooring and completing decoration on a room by room basis, moving through the building to the main entrance area.

Testing and commissioning of the building services has begun to ensure that all of the mechanical and electrical services operate correctly prior to the building being occupied.

External works are now underway, the courtyard areas are complete and the car park to the front of the building is under construction. The surfacing will be laid before the August bank holiday weekend.
