Mental health support for young people continues despite pandemic

Date:

The 20 nurses currently working in our Barnsley CAMHS team have all adopted new ways of working focusing on assessment, intervention and support mostly via technology, which is something the service is embracing in order to support young people and the wider healthcare system during this time.

Our Barnsley CAMHS team

We have nurses in the service trained in CBT who are working hard to deliver therapy in new ways. Our nurse prescriber continues to support and monitor young people and issue prescriptions as and when needed. Another nurse is developing group offers utilising various technological platforms.

Kate Jones, Barnsley CAMHS service manager for South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The nurses in the team form an integral part of the wider service and work alongside a variety of disciplines and skills. They all work over and above every single day to provide high quality care for the young people of Barnsley, and they do this whilst having to make difficult decisions, problem solve and manage sometimes conflicting demands – I cannot praise the work of the nurses in the team enough as they do all this, and more, with smiles, warmth and true team spirit.”
