Trust to launch new electronic prescription service

The Trust is set to introduce a new electronic prescription service which will make prescribing and dispensing medication more convenient for service users and staff.
The electronic prescription service (EPS) system allows prescribers to send prescriptions electronically to a community pharmacy of the service user’s choice.
Implementing this system will allow staff to spend less time managing prescriptions. It also removes the need for prescriptions to be posted or collected, as they will be sent directly to the pharmacy ready for the service user to collect. This will save time for both service users and the Trust.
The Trust will be rolling out EPS across three stages, starting with a pilot in adult ADHD services this month. Over the coming months, it will also be introduced across CAMHS and community mental health services.
Chief pharmacist Kate Dewhirst said: “This is a really positive development for our Trust and one that will bring benefits to both our pharmacy colleagues and our service users. Our EPS team will be working closely with prescribers to offer training and support to ensure that everyone is ready for the new system.”
Chief medical officer Prof Subha Thiyagesh said: “Transitioning from paper prescriptions to digital prescriptions will improve prescribing accuracy, patient safety, and operational efficiency. EPS has already demonstrated its effectiveness in GP practices across England and is expected to bring substantial benefits across our services too.”
If you are currently prescribed medication by one of our community teams, please ensure you have nominated a pharmacy with your GP, as this can only be updated by you via the NHS App or your GP. If you need help, your clinician can support you during your appointment.
We welcome your feedback as we move forward.
