Wakefield people invited to a Festival of Wellbeing!

Date:

South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust is inviting everyone to join in Wakefield’s Festival of Wellbeing to celebrate World Mental Health Day on Monday 6th October at Treacy Hall, Wakefield Cathedral, Northgate, 10am-3pm.

The event is just one of many celebrations taking place across South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust and throughout the world, which aim to tackle the stigma that surrounds mental illness and promote wellbeing.

This year’s celebrations will include taster sessions for arts and crafts and complimentary therapy sessions. There will also be plenty of entertainment including poetry reading, belly dancers and juggling stilt walkers. There will be information stalls at the event and displays helping people understand the importance of looking after their own mental wellbeing. Information for families and carers will also be available.

Speaking about the event, one of the organisers Lynn Fowley said, "World Mental Health day gives people a chance to find out more about mental wellbeing and to learn about how to keep their minds healthy. This year’s event will provide a festival atmosphere to boost people’s wellbeing. It will be a time to open people’s minds and break down some of the stigma surrounding mental illness. 1 in 4 people experience a mental health problem in the course of a year, so it is important we all do our bit to find out more about mental health issues."

She continues, "The Trust is at the final stage in its application to become a Foundation Trust, a different type of NHS organisation based on membership. Over 10,000 local people have joined the Trust as members and they have all been invited to this year’s event. Local people, who are not already members, will also have the chance to learn more about the Trust and membership."
