Trust launches new electronic prescription service

We successfully launched our new electronic prescription service (EPS) in our adult ADHD service this month.Photo of a prescription bag next to a laptop

The EPS system allows prescribers to send prescriptions electronically to a community pharmacy of the service user’s choice, helping to make the prescribing and dispensing process more efficient and convenient for service users and staff.

The launch in adult ADHD services marks the start of a three stage roll out. Over the coming months, EPS will also be introduced across CAMHS and community mental health services.

The strong foundations built by the adult ADHD team will be used to learn, refine processes and demonstrate the benefits of EPS in practice as we continue to roll out the service across the Trust.

Amanda Morris, programme manager – EPMA and EPS, said: “This is a fantastic achievement which would not have been possible without the dedication, collaboration and commitment shown by both the EPS implementation team and the adult ADHD staff and managers. Reaching this milestone is something we should all be proud of as we continue to modernise and improve our prescribing processes.”

Advanced nurse practitioner Richard Perrin said: “This is life-changing in terms of keeping clinics to time and on track. The fact we can finish a call by saying the prescription has been sent directly to the pharmacy means we don’t have to spend time making arrangements for collecting the prescription from a Trust site. It is so much better for our service users.”
