Early intervention team celebrates with open day
Local people who use mental health and learning disability services provided by the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and their carers are invited to a special open day to celebrate the work of the Halifax Insight team on Thursday 10th June.
The Trust is the local provider of mental health and learning disability services across Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.
The event is being organised by the Trust’s Insight team in Halifax to help celebrate meeting the service’s initial three year targets and to enable local people to find out more about the work they do in early intervention and their achievements.
The Insight team is an early intervention in psychosis service that supports and treats people back to recovery who experience their first episode of psychosis. Psychosis is viewed by the team in the same way as any other illness- with the right treatment it can get better and early detection is crucial.
The Early Intervention Service works with children and adults aged between 14 and 35 who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis in the hope of identifying and treating symptoms early to promote recovery. People can be referred to the Insight teams through any NHS or social service including GPs, health visitors, school nurses, youth offending teams or substance misuse services. Self-referrals are also welcome.
Sometimes people have experiences that often people can’t understand, for example some people feel as though the TV or radio is referring to them or giving them special messages. It can sometimes be difficult to focus or concentrate. This could be psychosis, which effects 3 in every 100 people.
The special event will run from 12.30pm at Halifax insight team, Offices1-5, Britannia Works, Garden Street North, Halifax, HX3 6AE and will be an ideal opportunity for people who use the service to join staff to celebrate their achievements.
There will be a number of staff on hand to discuss the work the Insight team does and refreshments will be provided as well as a celebration cake.
Insight team leader Trish Greenwood said, "This is an ideal opportunity for people who use the Trust’s services and their families and carers to hear in depth information about the service and ask any questions they might have. It will also be an opportunity to recognise the hard work that has taken place since the service was established."
