Trust wins good practice awards

Date:

The Trust has received two Highly Commended recognitions at this year’s Care Programme Approach Association (CPAA) Good Practice Awards.

The awards were in the ‘Excellence in Providing Care Programme Approach (CPA) Information for Service Users and/or Carers’ category for an information leaflet, and the ‘Excellence in Monitoring and Evaluating the CPA Process’ category for the Trust’s CPA audit.

Primarily aimed at service users and carers, the award-winning eight-page leaflet entitled ‘The Care Programme Approach: Personalised support and care for people with mental health needs’, helps individuals to understand CPA and Standard Care, highlighting some of the good practice standards in these two processes.

The leaflet content was drafted by Phil Tordoff, CPA policy development lead, and the CPA lead group, which is made up of clinicians from across health and social care, commissioners from the three local authorities covered by the Trust (at the time of production), and a service user representative. It was designed by the Trust’s in-house graphic design department.

Phil said, "CPA and Standard Care are all about involving the service user and their carers. By informing them of the services from the outset they will be able to work in partnership with staff to develop a care and support plan which aims to meet their agreed needs and aspirations.

"It is essential that individuals receiving services are at the centre of these processes and it is crucial that their experiences and knowledge influence how services are delivered.

"One of the key drivers for producing this leaflet was to raise an understanding into the role of care co-ordination and to increase engagement and involvement in assessment, care planning and review."

The second award was for the Trust’s audit tool, designed by Phil and implemented with support from the clinical governance team and the performance and information team.

The audit includes both service user and carer experience questionnaires which are critical in allowing the organisation to monitor if services are achieving outcomes relating to quality, engagement and that CPA is being delivered effectively.
